イエスは弟子たちにこう言い残して天に上げられます。「しかし、聖霊があなたがたの上に臨むとき、あなたがたは力を受けます。そして、エルサレム、ユダヤとサマリアの全土、さらに地の果てまで、わたしの証人となります。」この言葉の通り、福音はエルサレムからユダヤとサマリヤへ、そしてユダヤ人ではない異邦人たちへと広がっていきます。けれど、それはプログラム化された機械のように広がっていったのではありません。イエスの福音は、イエスを信じた人が次の人に伝えることで広がっていきました。福音の力によって変えられた人が、次の街へと伝えることで広がっていきました。福音は人から人へ、街から街へと伝えられていきます。使徒の働きの後半で、福音はローマ帝国の中心であったローマまで届きます。このイエスの働きは今も続いています。私たちの周りにいるイエスを知らない人々へ、福音が届いていない街々へ、イエスは誰を通して福音を伝えようとしているでしょうか。「私がここにいます！私を遣わしてください！」こう言える教会へと成長していきましょう。

Before Jesus was taken up into heaven, he left his disciples with these words: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”Just as Jesus said, the gospel spread through Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the Gentiles, those who are not Jews. Yet it did not spread mechanically, as if it were pre-programmed. The gospel spread because those who believed in Jesus shared it with others. And those transformed by the power of the gospel carried it on to the next cities. The gospel goes from person to person, city to city. In the second half of Acts, we see the gospel being carried all the way to Rome, the very heart of the empire. The works of Jesus we read here are still happening today. Jesus is still seeking to use people to share the gospel with those around them who have never heard, and to carry it to places that have not yet received it. Let us grow into a church that can truly say, “Here I am! Send me.”
